South Central Industries challenges us to turn our thinking around by inviting neighbors to participate in providing solutions to improve wellbeing for our community. Instead of viewing a disability as a personal deficit, we think of it as a social responsibility to create a place where all people can be supported to live independent and full lives. This crosswalk art will improve safety for people of all abilities, foster community pride, and highlight the value of this gateway to Downtown.
Theme: Colorful vibrant, original, eye-catching, art deco, mosaic design with an emphasis on Shawnee history and community pride.
Entry Period: March 29-April 20
Thank you to the Blue Zones Project Built Environment Committee, South Central Industries, and the City of Shawnee who are partnering to roll out this initiative focused on enhancing public safety and building community pride. The Painted Crosswalk program aims to add traffic calming elements that increase visibility for people of all ages. As downtown Shawnee and adjacent neighborhoods continue to be revitalized, selected as the first partner South Central Industries provides an incredible service to individuals with developmental disabilities.
We appreciate your participation in providing safer streets for people where we live, work, and play!
