In one study looking at the impact of ties with friends and relatives, club membership, and level of volunteerism, those with the most social connections tended to live the longest.
The most important thing you can do is spend time with people who support healthy habits-yours and their own. All of the world's longest-lived people were born into-or consciously chose to associate with-supportive, healthy-minded people.

Why is purpose important for health and longevity?
Okinawans call it ikigai, and Nicoyans call it plan de vida, but in both cultures of these Blue Zones, the phrases roughly translate to, "why I wake up in the morning." What’s your reason to get out of bed every morning? Studies show that people with a clear goal in life, or something to wake up for every morning, live longer and stay mentally sharper than those who don’t. When we use our time – and our gifts and passions – on things that are truly important to us, we are living with purpose.
